Walnuts and Horses are not a good fit

Today we started with Prinze. He rolled and I exercised him a little. Eliza walked him around for a bit. Then I had her lean on him and finally sit on his back. He was a little more startled by the weight. Eliza is 20 lbs more than Aislin. But he is a good pony and tries his best.
We got Cajun out to trot for Kylie. He still has a bit of a limp, but he is well enough to start conditioning. The vet has given him the go ahead as well. So now I just need to start formulating a plan for him.
There are a few nut trees on the property and Eliza got interested in the Walnut Tree and really wanted to crack a nut open. It was time for her lesson, but she was a little fixated on getting that nut opened. Her lack luster response to lesson time prompted the trainer and owner to decide Eliza didn't get to have a lesson today. They left to tend to the horses on the hill. Eliza was devastated and cried and cried. She told me she didn't realize that she was going to lose her lesson for not acting excited. I told her that if she acting like riding was a waste of her time, than the trainer didn't want to waste her time training her. I was pretty devastated myself as it meant I wasn't going to be able to ride this morning either. One of the very important rules is you can't ride solo in the arena. There has to be someone who can run for help if you get hurt. And since they were up on the hill, it meant I was grounded as well. I pacified her by telling her we could go on the hill and look for the left over pumpkins, but then I couldn't get the gate to open. So no consulation prize. Very frustrating. But we progressed with Prinze and got Mr. Easily Bored Cajun out of his stall for a little bit. You have to count your successes where you can.

It was sad. Apparently the trainer was on a tight schedule. I think we could have coordinated it differently if I'd know the plan before hand. We'll do better next time.
